A Picture of Who God Is

Heart Prep

God, help me learn more about Who You are.
Show Yourself to me every day as I read Your Word.

Psalm 145:3 “Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable.”

When listing the attributes of God, we often write down love, grace, mercy, and wisdom. God is all of those things, but He is so much more. The book of Psalms gives a wonderful picture of Who God is. He created everything, including you, and He loves you and cares about everything pertaining to you. (Read Psalm 139). He is mighty and strong. He is kind and compassionate. He is able to know everything and has the power to do the impossible. God’s attributes are eternal, and we cannot understand everything about Him, but the Bible teaches us all we need to know about God in order to trust, follow, and love Him. We are told to ‘fear the Lord’. This does not mean that we need to be scared of Him. This kind of fear is a reverent fear. It means to give God respect for His authority. We should all have this healthy fear of God. Psalm 111:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.“  When we learn that God is to be respected and feared in this sense, then we begin to understand more about Him. God wants you to know Him. He wants you to ask Him things and learn about what things He likes and does not like. But more than anything, God wants you to believe in Him and have a personal relationship with Him. God is good. God is holy. God is just. God is love. When we believe in our hearts that these things are true, then our relationship with God will become very personal. God blesses those who seek Him.
