Hold Up The Staff For Our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Guard
Heart Prep
Annually on November 11, our nation honors our military servicemen,
remembers those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for family and country,
and prays for those who have, are and will serve the United States of America.
Begin now praying for our military.
Exodus 17:13 “So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.“
Joshua was Commander of the Army of Israel, and they were fighting the Amalekites. Moses was on the hill overlooking the battlefield with Aaron and Hur. God had told Moses that as long as his staff was raised, Joshua and the army of Israel would be victorious, but when the staff was lowered they would be defeated. All went well until Moses started getting tired and could no longer hold up the staff. Aaron and Hur were right there and stepped in and put a rock under Moses for him to sit upon, and they held his arms up until sunset. Thus Joshua overcame the Amalekite army. (My paraphrase of Exodus 17:10-14.)
Our military men and women are in a battle for us. Visualize the spiritual battles they face and consider how you should BE PRAYING for our military personnel as they fight for this country at home and abroad:
• In preparation for battle: their armor, their mindset, their battle plan
• In battle: to press on, push through, follow commands, rest when able
• In recovery: for medical and ministry personnel giving aid to the wounded and dying
• For them to see what God is doing around them and through them.
• For Military Believers to be looking for opportunities to share Christ with their comrades.
Do our military men and women see something different in Believers who serve alongside them? They share the same FEARS, even if they are not verbalized: the unknown ahead of them; choosing correct actions and reactions from training; wounds, physically and mentally; death. For non-believers is there a fear of the future on the other side of this life? Are our believing military men and women sharing the way to eternal life?
You can be on your knees, holding up the staff for our military men and women. Use the news to guide your prayers. If you know a veteran, understand that there is nothing wrong with talking about the battle (positively), because they are already thinking about it. Give them the opportunity to be recognized, or not, as they desire. Hold up your staff and support the armies of God.
