How Can I Be Blessed?
Heart Prep
Lord Jesus, please open my heart to know what it means to truly be blessed.
Matthew 5:1-3 “When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down,
His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Without Christ, there would be no Christianity. We owe everything to Him; and as believers, we should deeply desire to know Him. One of the best ways to do that is to hear what He has to say. In Matthew 5, Jesus spoke a message about being blessed, or happy. We often hear people talk about being blessed, or desiring to be blessed, and in Matthew 5, Jesus promises a blessing to those of certain character, who will find happiness in serving Him.
In Matthew 5, Jesus had begun His earthly ministry, and because the people were beginning to see the supernatural power He had to heal, a huge crowd began to follow Him around, bringing those who were sick. As this crowd of people was following Him, Jesus went up on a mountain, called His disciples, who followed Him for love and learning, to sit with Him, and He began to teach them, in the hearing of this huge audience. His first words were that the poor in spirit are truly happy. Not the proud, rich, or even educated. The blessing, the happiness, is to those who have a humble opinion of themselves and are thankful for all that they have. They would receive the kingdom of heaven. Focus today on being humble and poor in spirit, constantly thinking of the humility of Christ.
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might be made rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).
