What Am I Hungry For?

Heart Prep

God, please help me to be hungry for the things of You and not of this world.

Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

Have you ever had a craving? For cookie dough ice cream, maybe? What about pizza? Or have you sometimes exercised so much that you absolutely could not wait to get a drink of water? It is perfectly fine and absolutely normal to desire to eat a certain food or drink a certain drink, but that should not be our primary desire in life. During His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus made it clear that although we naturally hunger for food, which is a necessity, we should have an even deeper desire for righteousness. He said that if we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we will not only be blessed but also satisfied. Imagine what it would look like to desire righteousness with all your heart. What would that mean for your life, relationships, activities, and words? Righteousness for a Christian young lady means right living and honoring the Lord with your life. It also means that your life will be different from the lives of non-believers around you. A righteous life for you might mean steering a conversation away from gossip and toward building others up. It might mean dressing in a modest way that honors God. It might mean praying for your teachers and classmates and obeying those people that God has put in authority over you. These actions and attitudes should not feel like chores; you should desire them! A life with Jesus should create a deep desire to honor Him with all of your thoughts, words, and actions. If that is the desire of your heart, you will be blessed by God, and you will be able to feel satisfied in His love. Today, think about what it will mean for you to live a righteous life for God, and pray that He will give you a desire for that.

What is God saying to me?

Something I want to remember from this is...

How does this change my life and what are my next steps?
