You Are Not Alone: Facing Anxiety, Fear, Doubt, or Loneliness
Heart Prep
Dear Father, prepare my heart to receive truth from Your Word today.
Psalm 27:13-14 “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage;
yes, wait for the LORD.”
If you struggle with bouts of seasonal depression, or you’ve been diagnosed with clinical anxiety, and things feel way out of your control, you are not alone! The first step in conquering these problems is knowing that you aren’t alone, you haven’t been left to figure it out by yourself, and you have a friend who is on your side!
The psalmist writes in Psalm 27:13-14 about the confidence we are able to hold in the Lord because of His goodness: “I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living” (27:13). More times than not in Scripture, promises are followed by commands. The writer of this psalm follows this promise of the Lord’s goodness with a command to wait: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and courageous. Wait for the Lord” (27:14). We are called to have this confident faith in the Lord’s goodness, and then we are told to wait upon His all-knowing and perfect timing, for He will never not show up for us!
We can trust this too! Take a look at Hebrews 4:15-16: “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Life Application
When you are faced with times of trouble, who/what is the first thing you run to for comfort?
Sit for a while and ask the Lord what it looks like for you to wait in your season of trouble.
Seek advice from someone who knows what you are going through. You may need professional help. (Just like someone who has diabetes or other health problems.)
