An Aligned Mind

Heart Prep

Jesus, please guide my thoughts.

Romans 8:6 “For the mind set on the flesh is death,

but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.”

The Apostle Paul doesn’t pull any punches in Romans 8:5-8 when he addresses our mindset. He makes it clear that our thought life demonstrates whether we are living or dead. When Paul says “flesh” here, he is referring to the natural, sinful desires we all have. He is challenging us to set our thoughts on things of God. Why is this so important?

Paul says in verse 6 that a “mind set on the flesh is death”. The word “death” here, in the original Greek text, means separation. Paul is saying that the more we focus on fleshly, sinful things, the more SEPARATED we are from God, who is the Giver of Life. If we are separated from the Life Giver, then we are as good
as dead.

Do we want to be FULL of LIFE? Then, we must align our thinking with God’s. We do this by spending time in his Word (like you’re doing right now)! We also do this by listening to good Bible teachers and worship music, having relationships with other Christ followers, and by spending time having conversations with God through prayer. The beauty of following these simple steps is that God promises that a mind aligned with His is one filled with LIFE and PEACE!

Thank you, Lord, for promising us life and peace as we align our thoughts with Yours!
