Fix Your Thoughts on Him
Heart Prep
Father, thank You for offering perfect peace.
Help me fix my mind on You so I can have that peace.
Isaiah 26:3 “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.”
Sometimes the world seems out of control. I can’t watch the news without getting totally stressed out. Countries are fighting, everyone thinks the stock market is about to crash all the time. Even the weather causes me anxiety. My problem is that I like to be in control. I like to be able to make things happen, or stop things from happening to keep the people I love safe and happy.
But that’s not real life. The world, and everyone in it, is outside of my control. I cannot make any other person do anything. The only person I have control over is myself. Isaiah told the people in chapter 26, verse 3 that “the steadfast of mind [will be kept] in perfect peace”. Perfect peace sounds so nice for those who spend their days wrapped up in worry and turmoil. How do we find perfect peace? By focusing our minds on the One in Whom we trust. To be steadfast of mind means that I turn my mind, my thoughts, my words, my worries, straight to the Father Who loves me, the Savior Who died for me, and the Spirit Who comforts me. When my mind starts to drift to worry, I focus it right back on the One in Whom I trust.
When I turn my worries over to the One who can actually control things, He can do something about them. He takes my worries and gives me perfect peace. He takes care of my situations. My responsibility in having peace is not to fix everything and control everything, but to fix my mind on God. I continually have to remind myself that I am not in control (thankfully!), and I turn my thoughts to the One Who is in control!
