Beautiful Image Bearers

Heart Prep

Pray and ask God to soften your heart. Ask Him to help you block out
the lies in your life and hear His truth during this devotion time.
Ask Him to help you see how His nature is reflected in your life.

Genesis 1:27 “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.”

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you see someone that you like? Or do you see someone you want to change? What you see in the mirror is purely a reflection, an image of your face and your body. We are not able to see our actual bodies and faces without the mirror. When God made us, He made us in His image. He made us to be a reflection, or an image, of who He truly is. When people look at us, we are the reflection in the mirror of who God is. We are His image bearers.

You may be thinking this Biblical truth should make your life better, yet somehow it doesn’t feel that way. There are probably times that you have felt left out or felt you aren’t wonderfully made. What if I told you that you don’t have to feel this way? It all comes down to what we think about God. This determines how we view ourselves. Because He made us in His image, we need to know who God is in order to understand who we are. When you feel inadequate, you can remember you were made in God’s image. You carry His nature with you. God is forgiving, loving, kind, wise, and beautiful. This is good news. These characteristics are in you because of Him. You are His beautiful image bearer.

We fight a spiritual battle every day. That battle is not against friends, parents, or teachers. The battle is against Satan, who wants to take away our identity. You only have ONE true identity, and it is the one God gave you.

Life Application

Think of 3 characteristics that describe God’s nature. What is He like? Are you reflecting these?

What do those 3 characteristics say about who He made you to be? How do they remind you of who you are in Christ?

Remind yourself of this: You were made in HIS image, so you must know HIM to know who you were made

to be.
