Ice Cream Series: Many Flavors

Heart Prep

Dear Lord, thank You for being so creative, and for making all of Your creations unique, each in its own special way. Thank You for paying attention to even the tiniest detail concerning me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Psalm 139:14 “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.”

Walking into the ice cream parlor was like a breath of fresh air. I had waited all day long to satisfy my longing for good ole’ fashioned cold creamery. The ice cream display case was lit as bright as the sun, and as I walked over to it I saw so many varieties to choose from. There had to be over thirty different flavors available! They ranged from mocha, to cotton candy, to blueberry, to the standards, vanilla and chocolate, and so many more. As I looked at all those different flavors and colors I was reminded of how creative God is. He made each of us unique and special in our very own way. He even gave each one of us our very own unique fingerprint! He created numerous animal and plant species. He created seasons and weather: no two days are the same. He created a world of wonderful variety for all of us to enjoy while we are here
on earth.

C.H. Woolston penned one of the very first songs I learned as child: “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” My favorite line from the song is “...red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world” (Woolston, 2012).  Just as ice cream manufacturers know exactly what ingredients it takes to make each flavor of ice cream, our Heavenly Father knew from the beginning of time exactly which features, characteristics, talents and personality would make YOU.  Isaiah 64:8 tells us that God is our potter and we are His clay. He made us all from the same flesh and blood, each a descendant of Noah, (blood sisters!), and no matter your gender, ability or cultural background, you were uniquely made with purpose and intention.

Life Application

It’s easy to focus on things that we want to change or wish were different about ourselves. Instead, write down everything you love about YOU. What characteristics make you unique?

Make it a priority to make someone’s day better by pointing out something special about him or her, preferably, something they do (fix their hair, pick out clothes, help others), as opposed to how they look physically, which they didn’t choose and can’t change.
