Fighting Evil With Good
Pray and seek God during this time. Ask Him to help you to understand the need for fighting evil with good, instead of evil. Ask Him to help your heart to soften
towards others in your life that have hurt you, and to forgive them completely.
Romans 12:17-18 “Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men.
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.”
I’m sure that in your lifetime you have been offended by someone, whether it was on purpose or accidentally. If someone did it on purpose, it’s all the harder to come to terms with. You want to hurt them the way they hurt you. It’s not right for them to do that to you, so you need to show them how it feels. But if you lower yourself to their level, you will become no better than the person who hurt you. It doesn’t help anything to pay someone back. It doesn’t fulfill your soul: it usually leaves you worse off. Think about what would happen if you decided to start forgiving others when they hurt you, if you started pursuing peace instead of trouble or drama? Your life would be so much more peaceful and you could handle people in a lighter and kinder way. God says, “NEVER pay back evil.” He knows that paying evil for evil only brings more evil. That’s the way of the people in the world around you. However, fighting evil with good is God’s way, it is the right way to go, the only way to go. His Word says, “IF POSSIBLE, AS FAR AS IT DEPENDS ON YOU, be at peace with all men.” That means, if it pertains to you, if you’re involved with it, your job is NOT to cause any more drama or chaos. Your job is to bring peace to the situation. As long as it depends on you, and as long as it’s in your hands to do something, be peaceful with everyone in your life. Your relationships will benefit, your mood will benefit, and your heart will benefit. It won’t be easy at times, but it is worth the benefits.
What is God saying to me?
Who is it in my life that I need to start pursuing with peace?
