Truth: You Are a Child of God

Ask the Lord to help you fully grasp the fact that you are a child of God, and think about how that truth should impact your life.

 1 John 3:1-2 “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

Today’s verse literally means, “Behold, what a peculiar, out-of-this-world kind of love God, the Father, has granted to us!”  We are called children (daughters) of God, the creator of the universe. You are a daughter of The King. Let that sink in for a minute. What did you do to earn such amazing love and favor? Not one thing. It is a free gift. In the original language, this kind of love is “agape” love, which is a love that is given with nothing expected in return. If you’ve surrendered your life to the Lord, asked Him to forgive your sins and take control of your life, that’s all that is required to enter God’s family and enjoy His love forever.

According to Romans 8:16-17, you now share Jesus Christ’s inheritance, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.” This inheritance gives you privileges: fellowship with God through Bible reading and prayer time; the indwelling and leading of the Holy Spirit during your life here on earth; and living with God in heaven for eternity.

Being a child of God, a daughter of The King, also means you are a sister-in-Christ to thousands of people around the world who have also surrendered their lives to God and have been added to His family. How special to know that you belong to a family that has members throughout Northeast Georgia, the Southeastern United States, the North American continent and the entire world!  Truth: You are a child of God.

Take a minute to read the following out loud: “Behold, what a peculiar, out-of-this-world kind of love God has for me! I am a child of God. I am a daughter of The King. I am a joint-heir with Jesus Christ.”

Write the truth “I am a child of God” on a note card or sticky note, and put it on your mirror so you can be reminded of this truth every day.
