God is Near

Heart Prep

Lord, I am thankful that You are near to me. Help me to believe, and to act on,
this promise. Open my eyes to see Your hand at work in my life. Amen.

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Have you ever needed some advice from a friend, but when you called, there was no answer? I remember doing this one day. I really needed some wisdom in my life, so I called my best friend. No answer. I called the next friend. No answer. And down the list I went. Each and every time . . . no answer. In my frustration, I yelled out, "God, I'm trying to find answers. Why won't You let someone help me?!" I didn't hear an audible voice, but deep in my heart I felt the Lord say, "I am here. Let ME help you." I literally burst into tears. I cried before the Lord and told Him everything I was going through, everything I felt, both good and bad.

I realized in that moment, He truly was the only One I could depend on at any time in my life. When we find ourselves broken and humble before the Lord, He is near! The psalmist wrote, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). What a wonderful God we can know!!

Friends will do what they can. Parents will try, as well. Teachers will do their best to help us and guide us. All we really need is to lift our hands to Heaven and bow our heads in humility. As we draw close to God, He draws near to us (James 4:8). He will show Himself to us, speak truth into our life, and heal our heart. Listen quietly after pouring out your heart, and be ready to hear Him speak. It is His desire for us to have a personal relationship with Him, and we must pay attention to His presence in our lives.
