Guard Your Heart
Take this time to pray and ask God to help you see the importance of guarding your heart. Ask Him to give you the strength to remove things from your life that push your heart away from Him.
Proverbs 4:23 “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”
Everyone loves a baby. They are sweet and innocent and special. But you have to keep a sharp eye on them when they start crawling and walking because they will wander away. Being naturally curious, they will be drawn away by what they see and want, without being aware of the dangers they may encounter.
Our hearts can be like that sweet baby. Keeping our hearts and minds bathed in God’s Word will keep them pure, but our hearts are deceitful and wicked, and our natural tendency is to wander away from God. We can be drawn away by our curiosity, our desire to do something fun, or have something we see; we can get caught up in the moment and be swept away into something wrong that our friends are doing. That’s how sensitive we are to our surroundings.
Guarding your heart is a very personal challenge. because we are all tempted in different ways. Perhaps you need to go through your television and movie picks and leave out the ones that fill your heart with ungodly thoughts and images. Music may be your temptation. Go through the music on your phone and delete the songs that are full of cursing, profanity, and wickedness. Guard your heart from harmful relationships that upset your emotional and mental health or draw you away from The Lord. If your friends are not for God, they are against Him. Do you need to distance yourself from friends, or a boyfriend? Do they fill your heart and mind, rather than God? Are you putting them first?
EVERYTHING you do and say flows from your heart. What fills your heart will come out in your life. If you have a pure heart, you will have a pure life with pure words and actions. Protect your heart from evil. Matthew 7:20 says, “So then, you will know them by their fruits.”
Name three things that make your heart wander from God. Now choose to let them go in the Name of the Lord. It may be a real struggle, but God will reward you! God will fill your life with something better than
those three things.
What is God saying to me?
What flows from my heart?
How does this change my life, and what are my next steps?
