Losing Your Temper

Pray and ask God to open your heart to hear His wisdom on being able to effectively hold your temper. Ask Him for the strength you need.

Proverbs 29:11  “A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back.”

A temper is a hard thing to hold onto sometimes. I’m sure you probably know some people who consistently lose their temper whenever they are angry. You might be that person, or it might be your parent or your friend who is like that. As hard as it might be for you to hold back your temper, it is ALWAYS the best idea. Once someone gets angry and loses their temper, it is hard for them to control themselves, their words, and their actions. I am always sorry when I lose my temper because I act in a way that I never want to act.

A wise person holds back her temper because she knows that nothing good comes from releasing it; that it only makes everything ten times worse. It gets in the way of communication and affects the hearts of all the ones involved. Don’t be the fool who loses her temper. Be the wise woman who holds it back when she’s tempted to lash out. When you first start feeling angry with someone, pause, and ask God for strength to hold back your temper and choose your words wisely. Remember Proverbs 15:1, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.” Which would you rather be in life, a fool or a wise person? I would much rather be known as the wise person. Make it one of your goals to be that wise person who holds back her temper. EVERYONE will benefit from that, and you most of all.

What is God saying to me today?

What is one way I can control my temper when I become angry?

Memorize Proverbs 15:1 so the Holy Spirit can bring it to your mind when you need it.
