What Voice Will You Choose to Hear?
God, help me to choose to listen to You and not Satan's lies.
Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.”
In this story, we see a woman, Eve, who was told by God not to eat from a tree because it would mess things up. We see a man, Adam, who was told the same thing by God. However, in this story, they both get twisted up and listen to the wrong voice. The serpent comes to Eve and tells her that what she heard from God was wrong and that she should eat of the fruit. So she listens to the serpent and eats.
The same thing happens with Adam. The Bible just tells us that Eve gave it to her husband, who was also with her. He was there, he heard the serpent, and then he heard his wife. We can assume that she turned and told him to eat or at least offered it to him. He chose to listen to his wife instead of his Creator.
You and I have the same choice every day. We can choose to listen to God, who loves us and wants what is best for us. Or, we can choose to listen to Satan who wants to steal, kill, and destroy us (read John 10:10). That verse tells us Jesus came to give us an abundant life while Satan fights to take that away. God tells us in His Word how we can live a good and abundant life, and Satan does the same thing he did in the Garden. He tells us that all of that is lies. Who will you believe today?
