The Surrendered Lunch
Lord, I do not have much to give You, but help me have a willing heart to surrender whatever You ask of me. I know that in Your hands my little bit can be turned into a lot.
John 6:9 “’There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many people?’”
As we walk with God He calls us to surrender things or to give up things. Sometimes those things are sins that push us away from God, but other times things we are called to sacrifice are good things. Sometimes God calls us to surrender our plans and our dreams. Sometimes He calls us to surrender our calling or our money. Why does He ask us to give up those things? Because He has something even better for us! We are so limited as humans because we cannot know what the future holds, but God sees everything -- the past, present, and future. He knows that by giving up our small thing we will be blessed with something even better down the road.
There’s a story in the Bible about a young boy who gave up his lunch to God, and God then multiplied his lunch and blessed thousands of others. Read John 6:1-14. That poor little boy gave up his lunch, the one that his mom had probably packed for him. The lunch that was perfect for him. It was just enough for him to fill his tummy, and he was probably looking forward to eating it. Then a man walked up to him and asked for his entire lunch. It makes me wonder if at first, he did not want to give up his lunch. What if he didn’t get any back? Wouldn’t he be hungry without any lunch? But he sacrificed his small lunch anyway, and God blessed it. Not only did the boy get his tummy full that day, but so did over 5,000 people. God can use the little bit you surrender to him. He can use it and bless you abundantly. And through your surrender, He will allow you to bless others.
Why does God ask us to surrender things?
How can you bless someone else by surrendering what God calls you to give?
