The Word Became Flesh

Heart Prep

God, help me to reflect on You and the true meaning of Christmas.

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory,
glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

You don’t hear this passage read much during Christmas, but it is such a beautiful picture of the Christmas story. John the disciple tells it from a different point of view. He starts back in the very beginning and talks about the “Word”, Jesus. The Word was in the beginning. He was the Creator of all things. John the Baptist came to testify about the Word, the Light which would enlighten every man. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us! Jesus came to His own, the Jews, and to everyone who would believe.

The Word, the Creator of everything, the Light of the world, the Sustainer of all things became flesh. The Word, high above the world in Heaven dwelt down here with us. That’s huge!!!! That is what Christmas is about. That is why we celebrate. Heaven came down. God came down. God became flesh, in Jesus Christ, and gave up all the glories of Heaven, to come down here where He knew He would be rejected by His own and ultimately crucified.

Why? He did that so that anyone who believes would have the right to become a child of God (John 1:12).  That just floods my heart with so much joy and gratitude. Think about it, girl. The God of the Universe, who doesn’t need anything, wanted you to live with Him forever. He loves you so much that He gave up Heaven, became flesh, and came down and dwelt among us to die in your place.

Life Application

Take a moment to reflect on what Christmas means in light of these verses.

What does this mean to you?

Pause and thank God for coming and taking on flesh for you.
