Better Things Ahead
Heart Prep
Take this time to pray and ask God to help you get to know Him better through your devotion today. Ask Him to open up your heart to receive His guidance.
Luke 9:61-62 “Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye
to those at home. But Jesus said unto him, No one, after putting his hand to the plow
and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
For those of you who don’t know how a plow works, I’m about to bless your hearts with that information. A plow is a type of farming equipment that has one or two blades fixed in a frame that is pushed forward by a worker in order to dig the ground for the planting of seeds. From our Scripture above, we see that Jesus spoke about a worker using the plow. In order to get the job done, this worker couldn’t look behind because he wouldn’t be able to see where he was going, and he would run off course
In our lives, we can’t keep looking back at our past and expect to go forward in God’s kingdom. His Word strictly says, that cannot happen. Everyone has something or someone they need to move on from in order to pursue a deeper relationship with Christ. If you know in your heart that something or someone is preventing you from following Christ fully, it is time to let go and continue forward. When you stop looking back and start prayerfully looking forward, you will begin to see Christ’s path for your life. Stick to that path; don’t let anything or anyone get in the way of your relationship with Christ. Press on. Don’t give up. Christ wants us to keep moving forward. Keep your eyes fixed on Him. He knows the way. He is the Way!
Life Application
Read Philippians 3:13
Do I believe that God has better things in store for me than I could ever hold onto from my past?
What or who do I have in my life that I allow to keep me from following Christ?
How does this change my life and what are my next steps?
