The Hidden Person of the Heart
Heart Prep
Take this time to thank God for making you just the way you are.
Ask Him for strength and wisdom to remember that
the most important thing is what’s on the inside, not the outside.
1 Peter 3:3-4 “Your adornment must not be merely external- braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.”
I used to absolutely LOVE this Scripture, mostly because it gave me a free pass in life about dressing up. I used to despise dressing up. I always made sure to wear something that I could run fast in if I needed to (which shows you that a majority of the people I was most comfortable with were either boys or highly athletic girls). I always cared a lot more about what was on my inside than what I was wearing on the outside. I have God and this Scripture to thank for that. I remember this verse floating in and out of my life throughout my teenage years. It was so encouraging to me. The point is, though, that what you look like on the outside is important, but it’s not the most important thing. What’s in your heart is MOST important. That one aspect steers your whole life. If you have a heart that doesn’t have Christ as number one, then you’ll be going off on another path, a path that leads to death. But if you have a heart that does have Christ as number one, then you’ll be going on the path that leads to Jesus and life. He’s leading you to Himself. Instead of spending hours worrying while deciding about what to wear, pick something you like, that’s comfy, and wear that. Don’t worry about what others think; that won’t matter in ten years, so it’s not even important. Spend more time working on your inside. Expose your heart to Scripture daily, repent, speak to God on a regular basis, and pray for other people around you. That kind of stuff is life-changing. Christ is life-changing. In the end, your soul is the only eternal thing in you. Your body will grow old and die, but your soul lives forever, either in heaven or hell. Your soul is way more important than your outward appearance.
